What we are working on...

The PAC via the Traffic Committee is working hard to keep the Gleneagles Elementary school zone safe and accident free.

By reviewing and practicing the list of do’s and don’ts below you will be helping to reduce congestion around school pickups and drop-offs.

The PAC and Traffic Committee are continuing to strive for additional safe driving measures around our school and are in the process of:

reviewing rules/regulations for crossing guard(s).
coordinating efforts with the District/WVPD to help crack down on drivers who are disobeying the 30km/hr speed limit and disregarding posted signs (stop and parking).

Intersection Upgrade for Marine Drive at Keith Road

Latest Update...

Current construction is for the water main in advance of the roundabout construction.
Construction on Roundabout to start in March (w/plans to finish end of May).
The District will be working with the school regarding parent communications.
The District is in the process of updating its website.

Gleneagles Traffic Do’s and Don’ts

Do...

Respect the Crossing Guard and follow his/her direction
Drop off/pick-up your child in the drop off/pick-up lane (lane closest to school) when you reach the front area (minimize potential for accidents, set your child up to exit/enter the car door closest to the school)
Ensure that you do not park in the drop off/pick-up/drive through lanes
Park in a designated parking spot if the driver will be exiting the vehicle
Be alert to pedestrians and vehicles pulling out of parking spots when exiting the drop off area
Supervise children when crossing Marine Drive

Be alert to children/adults crossing and the school bus on Marine Drive
Parents please be sure you are crossing w/your children if they are primary aged or younger
Stop for school bus when red lights are flashing
Drive the speed limit, 30km/hr

Be aware of Drop Off Area Preferences

Front Door – Primaries
Fence (Lower Field) – Pre-Schoolers
Perimeters – Intermediates

Don’t...

Park in the drop off/pick-up/drive through lanes. These lanes are intended to keep the traffic flowing. If your child is not waiting at the front you must continue looping until he/she is ready
Park in staff parking lots
Stop on a pedestrian cross walk
Pass School Bus unless safe to do so – be mindful of children/adults crossing
Parents please be sure you are crossing w/your children if they are primary aged or younger
Arrive too early for pick-up as there is no parking in the drive thru/pick-up lanes

No Parking

Along Keith (only in designated parking spots (either side of the staff parking entrance))
In the traffic circle
In front of the gate to the lower field fence
In Bus Stop

Reminders to...

Walk to School if Possible
Carpool if Possible
Exercise Care and Attention in School Zones
Abide by all parking regulations as posted by the District of West Vancouver
Review and Model these Pedestrian Safety Tips with your Children:
Stop
Look Both Ways
Listen for Traffic
Make Eye Contact with Drivers
Cross Only When Street is Clear and All Traffic has Stopped
