The GPAC consists of parent volunteers who act in an advisory role regarding various school functions. Since the 1989 School Act, the PAC is the officially recognized voice of parents at the school and school board level.
The GPAC fosters school and community spirit, promotes cooperation,along with communication and team effort to establish a fun and healthy environment for all at the School. Every parent of a registered child in the school has a right to belong to the PAC. Traditionally at Gleneagles, the principal and learning community members attend meetings. All parents are welcome at monthly meetings. The Mission of the GPAC Is to encourage parent participation in educational activities and the decision making process at the School by: • Enhancing and promoting communication and cooperation among parents, students, the Gleneagles staff and the community. • Reviewing, discussing and making recommendations to the Gleneagles staff with respect to school policy and procedures, programs and services, facilities and equipment, parent and community education, and learning resources. • Contributing to the effectiveness of the Gleneagles School goals by promoting both the involvement of Gleneagles parents and other community members if applicable, with Gleneagles staff. How is this Achieved? On a regular basis, • The PAC portion of the school website is updated to ensure current information is posted. The PAC website posts newsletters, meeting agendas, upcoming GPAC programs and committee information. • The GPAC Chair meets with the school principal monthly (except Dec and June) to preserve open lines of communication and to promote teamwork. • Standing and Ad-Hoc committees are created for specific tasks or areas of responsibility usually to further enhance the Gleneagles School community goals Every month... • The GPAC communicate information to the parent community thru the Thursdays emails and thru the PAC Website. • GPAC meets with parents, teachers and administrators to consider school and community issues of interest and concern to the Gleneagles School and its community. • The GPAC executive holds a meeting, (parents/administrators/teachers welcome to drop in) to plan agendas, obtain feedback; discuss issues of interest, etc. Minutes of all meetings are available. • Member(s) of the PAC executive attend the DPAC meeting to be informed of the issues at a district level. All West Vancouver PACs are represented at these meetings. Once a year... • The members of the PAC executive are elected by parents at a meeting convened for that purpose in accordance with GPACs constitution and by-laws • The GPAC holds a Budget Priority meeting where goals are set, ideas are exchanged and fundraising issues are discussed. Gleneagles Elementary staff, students and parents continually to work together to provide a challenging, safe environment for students. |
